The most obvious kind of list is coordination, but repetitions\u00a0and reformulations also qualify as lists.<\/p>\n<h5>This is an instance of what we call <b>list<\/b>:<\/h5>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-167\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lilec.it\/list\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/strip2.jpg\" alt=\"strip2\" width=\"6142\" height=\"4724\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.lilec.it\/list\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/strip2.jpg 6142w, http:\/\/www.lilec.it\/list\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/strip2-300x231.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.lilec.it\/list\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/strip2-768x591.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.lilec.it\/list\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/strip2-1024x788.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.lilec.it\/list\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/strip2-1170x900.jpg 1170w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 6142px) 100vw, 6142px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The phrase\u00a0<em><b>morning<\/b><b>, <\/b><b>noon<\/b><b> and <\/b><b>night<\/b><\/em>\u00a0is not an exact sum of &#8216;morning&#8217;, &#8216;noon&#8217; and &#8216;night&#8217;.\u00a0Rather, <em>morning, noon and night<\/em>\u00a0here means &#8216;all the time, always&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Here comes another example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>These are the stuff of physics. <strong>Chimps and dogs and bats and cockroaches and people and worms and dandelions and bacteria and galactic aliens<\/strong> are the stuff of biology.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This list contains a number of\u00a0entities studied by biologists.\u00a0Clearly, we don&#8217;t interpret this as an exhaustive list.\u00a0In other words, we expect biology to deal with racoons, too, even though they are not mentioned explicitly in the list, because what the list does is evoking more than is just\u00a0said.<\/p>\n<p>Natural language \u2013 both spoken and written \u2013 is full of lists\u00a0of different nature and complexity.
